So my first official post is both basic and close to my heart. As someone who struggles with anxiety, I get how tough it can be to let yourself just wind down and breathe. Something I’ve really been trying to focus on lately? Self-care. There is only one “you” and if you can’t take care of yourself, you will never feel satisfied while trying to tackle everything that life throws at you. Here are a few self-care tips that I try to incorporate into my day-to-day life. Keep on reading!
1: HOT BATH
I warned you at the beginning of this post: totally basic, I know. But really, is there anything more relaxing than kicking back in a hot bath? I love to just close my eyes and listen to podcasts/music/random YouTube vids. It’s such a great way to unwind before bed, so I try to do this daily. Can’t forget the candles and bath salts!
2: SET GOALS FOR YOURSELF
This is my light in the dark when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Doesn’t have to be a huge goal; just something else to look towards when the going gets tough.
3: COOK A GOOD MEAL
Speaking of goals, cooking more often is one of them! Don’t get me wrong, I love to cook. Apps like Uber Eats and Grubhub have been dominating my kitchen lately, but it’s something I’m trying to change. It’s such a good way to clear your mind, and I love the feeling of satisfaction after cooking a great meal!
4: WRITE DOWN HOW YOU FEEL
This is huge for me, and one of the reasons why I’m so excited about this blog! Physically writing and then reading all of my thoughts really helps me find perspective. I try to take a minute every day to write down 3 things that I’m thankful for. This will always put a smile on my face, no matter what else is going on.
5: CLEAN UP YOUR SPACE
Home care is self care?? For me, it is! I am at my prime when my home is clean and smells like my candle of the week & Fabuloso. This is where I feel cozy and secure, so taking care of my home feels like an extension of taking care of myself.
6: DANCE IT OUT
Good music helps everything. Turning on your favorite playlist & jamming out is good for the soul.
7: HAVE A MOVIE DAY
This is a favorite. Whether it’s by myself or with someone else, I enjoy blowing up the air mattress in my living room, bringing in all of the pillows & blankets, and spending the day watching whatever movies I can find! *This is not something you should do every day! But something I do try to do at least once a month when I feel like I need to just chill out.*
8: TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Get an extra hour or 2 of sleep, try a new face mask, go get that pedicure, and drink all of the water. Is exercise your thing? Take that Zumba class. Feeling extra tense? Treat yourself and go get a massage. Pamper yourself a little extra now and then – you’ll be so glad you did.
If you’ve made it to the end, thanks for sticking around! These are a few of the things that help soothe my soul, and I hope they can help someone else. What is something you do to relax? Comment below!
