Are you that person who hops out of bed and jump-starts their day? For years, that was me: waking up and rushing off to do whatever I needed to do. In an effort to help my mental health, I learned that starting your day off with a routine has been beneficial for many people! Here are 4 reasons why:

-GIVES YOURSELF TIME TO PLAN YOUR DAY
Listed below are 5 habits I’ve added into my morning routine!
WAKE UP EARLY
Most days I wake up between 7-8am. Don’t get me wrong: there are still days I won’t roll out of bed until 10am, but I just feel so much more productive on days I don’t spend half the morning in bed. Especially on a day where there’s a lot to do, it’s nice to be able to take a few minutes and reflect, plan out my day, or just not have to rush around.
MAKE YOUR BED
Having a tidy home helps reduce my anxiety, so making my bed is something I always make a point to do. Plus it feels so much more cozy when you’re getting back in it at the end of the day!
I’ve had a love/hate relationship with exercise over the past few year, but I’ve always found that the best time to work out is first thing in the morning. It’s harder to find excuses and gives a productive feeling that can really set the tone for the day. I recently purchased a Peloton bike and it has been a huge game changer. I’ve found myself really looking forward to waking up and working out! 10/10 recommend.
TAKE TIME FOR BREAKFAST
Always cut out time for breakfast! Whenever I skip it, I always feel like I have less energy to put towards whatever I’m doing during the day.
A few quick healthy options are:
– Protein Shakes
– Kodiak Protein Waffles
– Avocado Toast
– Yogurt and Fruit
– Overnight Oats (prep the night before)
DO YOUR SKINCARE
DO. NOT. SKIP. OUT. ON. YOUR. SKINCARE. ROUTINE.
Your skin will thank you for it. I hate rushing around in the mornings, but even if I am in a hurry, I will always take the 5 minutes to take care of my skin. Every routine is a little different, but here is mine:
– Rise face with water
– Spray with Thayers Witch Hazel Toner (I put in a bottle like this)
– Apply OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright Eye Crème
– Mix CeraVe Facial Moisturizing Lotion AM SPF 30 with a little Curology lotion and apply to face and neck.
*Facial sunscreen is so important! Especially if any of your nighttime products have any kind of retinoid, make sure your moisturizer has SPF.*
Since building a routine, I feel so much better physically and mentally. Not only do I feel more productive, I actually feel less tired? If you’re someone who constantly feels stressed, overwhelmed, or rushed throughout your day, I definitely recommend finding what works best for you and starting your own morning routine!
