COVID-19: 10 THINGS THAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING

COVID-19, or what many people simply call ‘the coronavirus’, is a topic that I’m sure most of us have on our minds right now. The outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019, and has since had a devastating impact across the world. In this post, I’ll be listing a little bit of common info on COVID-19, along with 10 things that you should be doing during this trying time.

WHAT IS A CORONAVIRUS?
– According to WHO, ‘coronaviruses are a large family of viruses which may cause illness in animals or humans.  In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).’

WHAT IS COVID-19 AND HOW DOES IT SPREAD?
– According to WHO, COVID-19 is a respiratory virus, spread through small droplets from the nose or mouth from a person coughing or exhaling.

What are the symptoms? Here are a few:
– Fever
– Runny nose
– Cough
– Respiratory issues/difficulty breathing
If you have any of these symptoms, immediately contact your local healthcare provider! They will guide you in what you need to do.

In all honesty, there isn’t much that I know about this virus outside from what you find in the media, and I think that makes this much more frightening for everyone. Now that we’ve went over some basic information, here is my list 5 precautions you should be taking and 5 things to keep you busy during your quarantine!

5 PRECAUTIONS YOU SHOULD BE TAKING

1: Wash your hands. Wash your clothes. Wash EVERYTHING. Hygiene is a huge part of the spread. Be as clean as possible. Also, clean your phone as often as you can. Let’s be honest: we spend A LOT of time on them.

2: Social distancing is a phrase I’m sure we’ve all heard of during the last few days… if not for your health, to protect others. This means no unnecessary outings and limiting physical interaction with those outside of your home.

3: Even if you are feeling just fine, try to stay home as much as possible. For me, this means staying in besides quick trips to the grocery store when needed. Again, if you must go out, take as many precautions as possible (wash/sanitize hands, do not breathe in someone’s face).

4: Don’t be that person hoarding supplies If you’re in the position to help someone, please do! Times like this is where people need to work together, not fight over toilet paper.

5: Don’t go crazy over the social media hype. Don’t be that person sharing article after article of how the world is ending, the economy is collapsing, etc. Stressing yourself (and others) out honestly isn’t going to do any good. Am I worried about the virus? Absolutely! But going crazy over it won’t do me any good – instead, take as many precautions as possible and try to stay positive.

5 WAYS TO KEEP BUSY

1: Take advantage of this time at home and spring clean! Go ahead and tackle that pile of laundry you’ve been avoiding and organize that closet you’ve been putting off. Purge what you don’t need, get rid of clutter.

2: Keep in touch with family & friends. Reach out to a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile. If you’re in a position to help, please do!

3: Binge watch that series you’ve been wanting to see or read that book that you’ve never had the time to get to. Might as well take this time do relax and do something you’ll enjoy!

4: Take this time to focus on your health! Although gyms in a lot of places are shut down for the time being, there are still so many work outs you can do right at home! Go for a run or you can find many free workouts on YouTube! I also recommend the Peloton app. While I use the bike, I also like to take advantage of the many at-home workout classes they have!

I just want to say again: if you are in a position to help a neighbor, friend, or stranger in need – please do!! Now more than ever is a time for compassion and kindness. Also, please try to support your local businesses. Whether that’s purchasing a product or leaving an online review, any contribution truly does make a difference. Hopefully if everyone can come together and take precautions seriously, this sickness will blow over sooner than later. Times are truly scary right now, and I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy!
