HOW TO THRIVE DURING QUARANTINE

The past few months have been a wild ride to say the least. Due to COVID-19, most of us have been stuck at home for several weeks now. Although time has went by in a weird haze, I feel like it’s been very important to try and utilize it as much as possible. Let’s be honest: I don’t think any of us wanted to be stuck at home for months on end, however, I’ve somehow found a way to thrive in all of this free time. Before going any further, I feel the need to say that in no way am I trying to downplay or make light this pandemic. Thankfully, I have been safe and healthy during this trying time and for that, I’m very thankful. I’ve taken this opportunity to focus on bettering myself, and I hope that others have been able to do the same. Here’s what I’ve been doing:

PRIORITIZE YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
I’ve really tried my best to use the last several weeks to reset and recharge my mind. I feel like I’ve really been able to take a step back and focus on all the things I should be thankful for. I haven’t always had the most positive mindset, and I’m definitely not saying that I do now, but one thing I’ve learned is that there’s no point in spending all your time worrying about the negatives. While the circumstances around it are terrible, I honestly am very thankful that I was given this time to work on myself. Mentally, I’ve had a lot of ups and downs over the last few years and being able to step back and focus on myself and what I need has really been such a blessing.

SET GOALS FOR YOURSELF
From time to time, it’s important to analyze where you’re at in life. During my quarantine, I’ve really gotten the chance look at the bigger picture. I’ve learned a lot about myself, and have realized that I’ve spent the last few years being very stagnant in life. While I’m very fortunate to be able to say I’m comfortable with where I am, there’s no growth with things that stay the same. Life is too short to settle for ‘doing well’, when you have all of the opportunity to thrive. I’ve been thinking of several ways in which I can better myself, and look forward to putting them into action once the real world starts up again!

FOCUS ON YOUR PHYSICAL HEALTH
I’m very proud to say that I’ve been able to stick to my health goals during quarantine. I’ve lost 10 pounds and several inches! Since I can’t remember the last time I wore a pair of jeans, I have been measuring myself by wedding dress sizes (this is what years of working in the bridal industry will do to you) and have lost 2 dress sizes since the end of February! I’ve been exercising every day (shout out to Peloton), and have been able to stick to a healthier diet. In the past, I’ve tried it all: Keto, counting calories, WW – and what’s been working for me is actually so simple: just being more mindful with the meals I’m eating. It’s been so easy to stick with and I know I’ll continue once quarantine is over.

SPEND TIME WITH YOUR LOVED ONES
So fun fact: my husband and I really don’t get to spend that much time together. During this quarantine, this is actually the most nights in a row that we’ve gotten to spend together in our 3.5 years of marriage. Crazy, right? I’ve really appreciated having this time together and I’m not gonna lie: I’m really, really going to miss it when it’s gone. Whether it’s your spouse, your kids, your parents – try your best to enjoy time with the ones that mean the most to you. This has been a great time to focus on the relationships you have in your life. And yes, you can work on them while social distancing as well. I’ve been taking the time to reach out to family, old friends, and just have conversations. In a time of isolation, it’s important to keep connections strong!

I just want to finish this off with the need to say, once again, that in no way am I trying to downplay or make light this pandemic. COVID-19 has been a traumatic time for so many people, including myself. Facing the unknown is frightening, especially when it comes to a sickness that has affected so many people. All I’m trying to do is bring a little bit of positivity out of a terrible situation. While restrictions are lifting in some areas, they are continuing to stay in place for others. Stay safe, stay healthy, and try to stay positive! Here’s to hoping that the world can go back to normal soon.

  1. I’ve been thriving by giving myself the space and freedom to not feel ok. It’s ok to not feel ok at time as long as you don’t dwell in that feeling.

  3. I agree with all these specially focusing on physical health. We need to boost our immune system to shrug off potential viruses that may come our way, especially COVID-19.
